KOMMEN lecture by Prof. Madeo - On the Role of Interfaces in Metamaterial Design
On January 27, 2026, starting at 5:30 PM, Prof. Angela Madeo will give a KOMMEN lecture entitled “On the Role of Interfaces in Metamaterial Design” in the Doric Hall of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
In her lecture, Prof. Madeo will show that metamaterial structures with identical dispersion properties and finite size exhibit very different dispersive behavior compared to the infinite case, which is largely determined by the type of interface. In particular, material and free interfaces influence the local displacement fields, the vibroacoustic coupling, and thus the global vibration damping, so that a targeted interface design enables significant performance improvements.
After the lecture, there will be an opportunity for mutual exchange over drinks and snacks.
