Building with straw

Gernot Minke worked as a professor at what is now the University of Kassel from 1974 until his retirement in 2011. There he founded the research laboratory for "Experimental Building" and led over 40 research and development projects in the areas of building with clay, building with straw bales, green roofs and low-cost housing. He has also been a freelance architect for ecological building since 1979. He has become known as a pioneer in the field of green roofs, load-bearing straw bale construction and vault constructions made of clay bricks and straw bales.
